The only other computer I have at home is my laptop and I have not tested for monitor failure yet by hooking it up to my laptop. I will be doing that this evening.

I don't have an extra PSU. Is there a way to test it with a voltmeter?

The only noises I heard when I powered up the computer was the CD drives, printer, and scanner initializing themselves. No clicking, no fans, no smoke, no smells. The power indicator lights on the front of the case were lit and the monitor light was lit but turned amber after the above mentioned equipment finished the initialization process.

Last night I opened up the case and powered up the computer. The internal power supply fan operates, the fan on the CPU chip heatsink does not run, harddrive does not run (no noise, no vibration). When the computer was powered up the 2 CD drives and the floppy drive were "activated". The only light on the front that is lit is the one indicating that the power is on.
I don't suspect a harddrive crash because it is only 6 months old. If figure it is down to a partially fried power supply or a dead motherboard.

If you keep turning it on without a working fan it will likely get much worse. the CPU needs the fan and if it doesnt it have it on all the time, it will likely fry. It sounds like perhaps either a faulty power supply or a motherboard issue. Open up the machine, make sure all plugs are connected correctly and dust it out. Try replacing the problem suplpy and see what happens. IF not then unplug all devices and connect one at a time to see if you can narrow down the problem. If none of them work and you have changed the power supply then you will likely need a new motherboard.

unplug the harddrive and than see if reboots with an error sounds like a bad drive. Did you hear any clicking noises from the system before this happened.

Is this an Intellistation by any chance? We had a few of these at work have the CPU gan get stuck on high and you get nothing else. I think the solution was to get a replace motherboard (or if out of warranty), recover the data, and dispose of the system.

It sounds like either your PSU died or your motherboard died. Try borrowing a power supply (PSU) out of another computer and see if that solves it. If not, try disconnecting drives and add-on cards one at a time. One may have shorted out.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
