Do you mean validate or register? There is no number to validate windows. You must register windows within 60 days of installing the OS or it will no longer let you even log in to the system. Since you are using the machine, that must not be the problem. If you are trying to install windows media player 11, then it should prompt you on the steps for validation during the install or download process. There is button that pops up on the screen that says validate. If you click that button and validate your system it should continue just fine. I am not sure about media player but some software will give the option to install it without validating. If you are failing the validation then you have a much bigger problem.

If you have a bootleg copy of WindBlows xp, you are screwed.

That is how WindBlows punishes people for having bootleg copies of their software.

I don't need MP 11 or any software that " phones home " to use it.

WindBlows 2000 is the last version I use. Then I upgrade to LINUX and tell BG$ to take a hike..

No genuine pc geek will answer your question.. only a bootleg pc creep will.. so best option is to FIRST purchase a legal copy of Windows (you can get used copies.. and original ones, for cheap rates in Ebay) then ask the question to the geeks

Microsoft has changed the Validation system so you must now validate each download as part of the download procedure. This prevents you from aquiring the programs from download sites like Download.com and others.
