My volume control and games (solitare, minesweeper, etc.) are gone, and I don't remember saying to delete them. Can I get them back?

Try using your OS CD, if you have it. All the files are there, as long as you can find them. Not sure how to restore your volume control though, I'd say - try open source/free stuff like http://www.truelaunchbar.com/plugins/volctl.php maybe or ever tried Widget Engine from Yahoo!? they have volume sliders in numerous widgets. Also you can download similar games from the internet, like minesweeper or solitaire, I'd try browsing the files on your OS cd first.

About cleaning programs - be careful with those, especially with the ones that 'clean' your registry because some of them can clean it so much, that there will be nothing left to boot your machine with :)

Good luck!

Go into the control panel

For the Volume control click on the "Sounds and audio devices" icon.
Check the box that says "Place volume icon in task bar"

For the Games click on the Add or Remove Programs Icons
Click on the Add Windows components selection on the left
Under Entertainment, check the "games" box

No, something else is wrong, either you did something else or you have a nice virus to do that for you. Disc clean up does not have access to those files since they are placed in a totally different pathway folder of clean up.

You can check I think C:\Windows for them. If not check for the backups or get them from other computers around.
