I was just wondering how many women had to have an emergency c-section, and what the dr's used to close it. I had to have an emergency c-section going on 4 years ago. They had to cut from hip to hip cause my son had the cord wrapped around the top of his head. After 11 1/2 hours of labor they did a c-section. After the c-section, the dr told me that all that was holding my insides in was, I think she called them tarry strips. They look like small pieces of glauze tape.

I've had 2 C-Sections - dissolvable stiches are used to close the inside. On the outside, they usually use staples covered by the strips. Before I left the hospital, they removed my staples - I was told that your incision is "water tight" after 48 hours. The strips help keep the incision protected and from stretching too soon.

Wow, maybe they do things differently in Canada, because they don't use staples here. I had an emergency section and a planned one. Both times they used disolvable stitched on the inside, and the layer of skin on the outside was just covered with gauze with two small stitches on the ends. Before I went home (two days) they removed the two stitches, and checked to make sure I was healing okay. I have very little scarring.

Steri strips

I had an emergency c last October. I know my sister had dissolving stitches, but i had staples. I think it depends on your doctor. The scar wasn't that bad. But i think the norm is staples (with steri strips) or internal stitches (with steri strips)
