nostalgia isn't bad.
if it doesn't "keep" you from enjoying the here and now
why don't you write a column for your local paper
...or put a blog on-line...or a be a regular on you tube...
about your memories of the past...and your dad's memories, etc...
you'll be creating a source of history for the future
--and, you can use info. gathered here, as inspiration and confirmation
