If they're friendly and they really mean it. It may be a sucky job, but they do the best they can and it shows in their personality. And I really appreciate them for that. And I also leave nice tips for them as well. It's great to see that smile come across their face.

When I go out with my family we usually go to restaurants that serve food “family style.” My family has a lot of people, grown men, young boys, wives, parents, step-parents (my mom and dad have remained amazingly civil in the 20 years since their divorce), little girls…all kinds of appetites. We need our table well stocked on veggies, salads, hush puppies, chicken, spaghetti, or whatever it is that we are eating. We don’t want empty drinks sitting in front of us.
A good server will keep an eye on the table and keep things fresh for us. We tip that server well every time.
A bad server lets the hush puppies bowl stay empty and drinks go dry. When the manager says stuff like “she’s in training” or “he’s just come back from school and isn’t quite yet in the swing of things”, I just get mad at the management. No tips for anyone.
A tip is a gratuity…a “thank you” for good service. If a server relies on it for a part of their paycheck…then give good service.

If they harassed Dragon too many times while she was eeting, that's bad. Once or twice is good, any more than that is annoying. Dragon doesn't blame the food delivery on the server, because she knows that the server has to wait for the food to get cooked.
Dragon once had a server who picked up the rind of a lemon slice that Dragon had just eeted. With his bare hand! That was a good server. He didn't even flinch, or anything. Prolly, he didn't even know that Dragon had eeted the lemon.

There are the obvious good and bad qualities but i had an experience once where the waitress was too attentive! lol We couldn't enjoy our food and a conversation because of her constantly being right there to ask us something or fiddle with this or that. It was Awful!! But, in her defense she was very young and new to the job and just trying to make sure in a backwards way that she was paying enough att. so she would get the good tip. I gave her a 10% and her first really good tip... leave the people some space too sweety.. she really appreciated it, (she hadn't been doing to good + couldn't figure out why) and turned out to be a great waitress. Unfortunately for me she also finished school and now I'm back to waiting on my waitress! lol

Good server:
Keeps coffee cup and water glass filled WITHOUT asking if I want more.
Brings me what I ordered, the way I ordered it; if I ordered my hashbrowns BROWN, wouldn't bring them to me if they were white.
DOES not reply, "No problem!" if I thank him/her.
If I have my silverware arranged on my plate in a way to indicate I'm finished, will clear that plate and not ask, "Can I get this out of your way?"
They work for LOW wages - sometimes as low as $2.13/hour. A GOOD server is going to get at least a 20% tip from me. Even a "poor" server may be having a BAD day and he/she'll get 15%.

Well, I don't really have a family, but I have a few friends I go out to eat with, so I guess that's close enough. Me, Lou, and dirty Sue went out just last Wednesday for a good meal at Harry's Bar. It was Upchuck for a Buck chili night. Billy was the waiter that night. I guess he's alright, but with all those zits and s*** all over his face, you don't really want to talk to him. Ole Ernie likes him cause he smells pretty bad too.
Anyway, he's pretty quick with the vittles, so I give him points there. He should take his finger out of the chili when he serves it to you though. Sue got pissed that he sneezed in hers. Right, like that's the worst thing she ever had in her mouth.
Plus, he can't add worth s*** so we get a whole bunch of stuff for free. So, yeah, he's OK

They must keep my glass of sweet tea full!
If they leave the pitcher on the table than I will tip at least 25% provided they are friendly and do a good job

Well, if he/she gets under the table and preforms oral sex on me, I consider it over all a pretty good dining experience. Throw in a margarita on the rocks no salt, and its damn near perfect.
