The function will be on a yacht cruising Sydney Harbour. I have absolutely no idea what type of outfit l should buy/wear. l am in my forties and being a single mum, finances are very limited. l need something that will flatter my size 16 bod. l would really appreciate some advice on this

My guess is it will be a little informal since it is an office party and during the day (not evening wear). But a lot depends on the kind of business (law firms tend to be more formal/advertising agencies are looser). I would go with pants and a nice top. You can kick it up with your choice of shoes if you want. Have a Christmasy scarf maybe for the occasion. You want to blend in, so don't go for neon colours.

My mom goes to a consignment shop,and people bring such pretty stuff there after a function.....if its more elegant,you should go with a nice/casual evening dress.....or if its casual,I'd go with some slacks and a dressy blouse and some pumps,or mules......you could always get some cheap jewelry from Forever 21,they have jewelry there for a couple of dollars.

Rather than buying, why not look at hiring. There are many ladies hire shops around now and it would get you a stunning dress for a not so stunning price. :D
