It's a Whirlpool GC2000XEI. I've tried hitting the reset button, which has not produced any change, but I suspect that it might be "stuck". Any suggestions?

It's stuck. Get out your hex wrench (there may be one taped to the unit's motor) Make sure the switch is turned off, put the hex wrench in the female part it fits into on the bottom of the motor, and turn it until it comes free. That should do it.

something is stuck contained in the blades. look contained in the drawers close to the disposal for a glittery wrench that appears like a lazy letter S. it would want to have six sided ends on it and that is a disposakl wrench. It matches contained in the middle of the disposal on the bottom lower than the sink. U stick it in until eventually it slips in, then grab it and delivers it a pull to make sure if u can make it destroy free or turn a touch. If that works u may have dislodged it and then get rid of the wrench and attempt it again with the swap, If that doesn't artwork then finally end up a short stick and placed it contained in the disposal and observe in case you may provide it a tug to interrupt it free. Then take it out and attempt the swap again. If it stops humming altogether then u popped the circuit breaker and that is a touch button found on the bottom of the disposal that is sweet to push to reset.

With the switch OFF. Use the allen wrench that came with the unit. Should have a slot in the unit under the sink and on the bottom of the unit. If no allen wrench, try a large wooden spoon and make a circular motion in the open side of the disposal unit. make sure the trash or food or HAND is clear when you turn the unit back ON.
Good luck.

Most of the previous answers are correct although I dont believe that the whirlpool has the hex opening at the bottom....the broom handle idea could work too.....I would recommend though that if your disposal is over 5 or 6 years old to replace it....but not with a whirlpool......get a whirlpool refrigerator or oven but nothing whirlpool if it has to do with plumbing, i.e, water heater, disposal......

This method worked for us. Turn OFF the power to the unit. Stick a short wooden broom handle, mop handle, plunger handle etc. down into the disposal. Using the sink opening for leverage, carefully wedge the handle against the inside of the disposal and the grinder plate. They'll be a raised up edge on the plate that you can get the handle against. Just try to get that plate to turn. Work it back and forth a few times. That should work.
Good luck

It is jambed with something. There should be a wrench taped to the disposal that you can use to break the jamb loose. If not, there is a nut on the bottom of the disposal that you can access and turn with a crescent wrench.

Clear the jam from above. Press the end of a short broomstick against one of the impellers, and jab in one direction and then the other until the jam breaks loose

Insert allen Key In Bottom of disposal and turn it. Usally there is a small allen key left with disposal.

That happened to us, turn it off, look at the bottom and there is a button to restart the motor, press it and it should work, if it doesn't, take wrench underneath and turn it a few times so that things come unjammed. it worked for us, hope you get it fixed.
