I started my period yesterday around 11 am. I was told when charting to go by the first full day of a period which would be today. I wonder why that is though when I started yesterday and was fairly heavy all afternoon and night. What do you consider to be the first day of your period?

Count it the first day of red flow you get. For charting, if you consider it anytime before bedtime, or anytime before midnight that day etc. it's fine as long as you're consistent.

The first day you see red flow--not spotting. Also, my reproductive endocrinologist says that if you see red flow before 5pm count that as day 1--but after 5pm the next day is day 1. Hope this helps!

when you follow your mentral cycle, and according to our doctors, it is clear that the first day of your period, be it at 11am or 11pm, doesnot matter. The first day you start your period is the beginning of your period. therefore you start counting from that day till you end.
