Leave it uncovered throughout the summer months and into the fall. Cover it only if you expect a heavy rain. In the winter and spring it should be covered.

Try to arrange a cover that keeps the worst of the rain off but still allows a good circulation of air. If you cover it completely with a tarp, and if you can be bothered, its a good idea to fold it back on good dry days and down again in bad weather. If the wood is resting on the ground and the rain can run under the wood you'll find the bottom layer gets very soggy and starts to rot, so if you can lift it off the ground by an inch or so it will be a big help. If you leave a waterproof cover over it on a warm day you'll get condensation from the wood that hasn't finished drying, which will then drip back and make the rest damp. Been there, done that!

actually, a bit of both! air can dry the wood better uncovered, but it needs to be under an overhead tarp or shed to keep rain/snow off of it, or it will never fully dry. Also, keep the bottom layer off the ground if possible, or it will rot and invite insects faster.

It's best to place a cover just over the top to keep rain or snow off it.

put some type of roof over it, but make sure it's not to close to the house unless you want little mice coming in yours, and carpenter ants, I had the ants and that's the first thing the professionals told me to remove the wood far from your house.
