I despise Walmart -- for my own very valid, personal reasons which I won't bore you with -- so I don't shop there. That's fine with me, I'm perfectly happy to spend my hard earned dollars at other, different stores.

But I gotta be honest. I was overjoyed this morning to read that Walmart greeters will once again be allowed to say "Merry Christmas!" to shoppers, rather than the generic "Happy Holidays" that we've all grown used to.

I won't be on hand to actually hear the greeters say it, but I'm hoping that other merchants will feel free to follow suit. Don't you?

I read the article on CNN.com.

I agree with you......Why do people have to ruin the Christmas Season by complaining about how they are greeted. Does it really matter if Someone says "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Holidays"? I mean..does it physically hurt you or ruin your day? Why can't people just say "Thank You" and go on with their lives?......I would rather someone said Merry Christmas to me then to ignore me or not say anything...... It's Christmas for God's sake......I still believe that Christ is part of Christmas...and am proud to say it...
Thanks for the GREAT Question/Comment.....and I hope that where ever you decide to shop, that they too will agree.
I wold like to wish you a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS....ahead of the time.

I agree; If someone doesn't want to celebrate the holiday by saying Merry Christmas (since the holiday is CHRISTMAS!!) then they should be quiet; I wouldn't expect a Jewish person to say Merry Christmas; if a person doesn't celebrate the holiday all they have to do is smile and move on; no need to make it personal;

That's great news! Where did you hear that? Do you know why the change came about? It always bothered me that they changed it to "happy holiday's" rather than "merry Christmas". I think that whatever your faith, you should be able to greet people with it. Whether it be "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Kwanza"! Either way, it's a season for celebration, and we ought to be able to scream it from the top of the roof!!!

You bet! I have always made a point to say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Christmas" (which is more British) to everyone during the season. I hate "happy holidays". Ugh!! And I never shop at Walmart. We don't have one near us.

But I must say, due to my upbringing in the Church - I don't generally say "Merry Christmas" to anybody until after the Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. Until then it's still "Advent".

But - if somebody says "Merry Christmas" to me...I NEVER respond with "Happy Holidays" (Aaaaargh!) or other such rubbish! If someone says "Happy Holidays" to me - I *always* say "Merry Christmas" back to them, just to make the point.

Oh....and when I write the word "Christmas" - I always spell it "Christ-Mass" ;-)
