We didn't actually see our daughter's genitals for ourselves until she was born... not everyone sees for themselves.
Often, the technician who does the ultrasound does not read them. With the last few ultrasounds that I've had, the technician does the actual ultrasound, but it's been a doctor who read them and told me what they meant.
Call your doctor on Monday and ask for your ultrasound results. You may have to wait for someone to call you back. You may even have to wait until your next doctor appointment.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. If the ultrasound technician said it's a girl then it is probably a girl. I'm surprised they didn't say anything about the baby's weight and due date. Usually they will point out these things while they are doing the ultrasound. I am 5 months also (will be 22 weeks tomorrow) and I had my ultrasound done 2 weeks ago and at that time they said the baby weighed 10 ounces (a little over half a pound).
Whenever you go to the doctor please just ask any questions to the nurse or doctor. Some health professionals are just too busy and don't care enough to actually DO their job. Did you say you are in Atlanta or New Jersey? I live in Atlanta.

It is up to you the parent to ask questions. Those questions are to be answered when asked but they are not obligated to tell you anything unless you ASK. As for the gender it is very common for them to be incorrectly ID'ed on ultrasound. If you saw genitals then assume its a boy, its harder to tell if a baby is a girl because of the cord and such could be in the way. If you want another ultrasound request it also your Dr gets a copy of the ultrasound and in the report it will have the babies weight plus or minus a few ounces I gave birth to a little boy 5 months ago and the ultrasound a week prior to birth said he was 8 pounds {which he was not thank goodness seeing as he was a month early as planned}! Ultrasound weights and such in the last trimester are NOT accurate they are most accurate in the first trimester, again your Dr can tell you this. If you lack the communication skills you think that you need please take someone with you that will be able to ask the questions for you.

I do not care what the ultrasound says, when it comes down to having a baby you do not know what it is until it comes out. Many times doctors read the ultrasound wrong telling you one gender when the baby comes out to be the opposite gender. Just pray that whatever it is, it is healthy. Do not do anything just prepare for either sex. Buy neutral color clothes. I do not know your age but if you get around a older person they usually can tell you what you are carrying and they do not need medical technology.

If you ever have doubt, always get a second opinion. It never hurts. A Ultra sound is never a 100% effective in telling the sex of your fetus. I would consult the doctor that ordered the Ultra sound and ask him/her these questions. I myself could not tell you, unless I saw the ultra sound. Also, the weight could be off by a pound either over or under. And Your due date the same from whatever the ultra sound says. It could be more or less. Either Way. I would consult the doctor, or get any opinion.

If the hospital has made mistakes before, then get a second opinion. All of my ultrasounds were correct. Good luck.

There are more false positives on boys than girls, so it's probably a girl. You won't be able to see genitals through an ultrasound if it's a girl -- since there aren't large external genitalia! Just call your Dr. and ask them some questions!
