When the Aborigines in Australia got real cold at night, they would have their dogs sleep around them. A 'three dog night' was a cold night.

You've kind of answered your own question...it's actually not the aborigines they were referring to, but to the alaskans....damn cold there!

The group should change it's name to Two Dog Night because the group kicked out member Chuck Negron because of personal problems back in the 70's.
Chuck had the the most beautiful and powerful voice in the group check out "Pieces Of April" and "Joy To The World " just to name a few .
