What is that movie about the kids who escape the plane crash but death comes after them anyway?

There was a recent movie and a sequel where 6 kids were supposed to get on an airplane, but can't for some reason. Then they see the airplane blow up on front of them and then this force tries to kill them one by one with weird improbable scenarios, like power lines coming down in their front yard and electric signs coming loose and swinging into them. What was it called and also, was it originally a book?

Final Destination (2000) was the first one in a trilogy.
It was followed by Final Destination 2 (2003) and by Final Destination 3 (2006).
Ugh the scene where the teacher was killed in her house.
There are some even worse ones in two!

Final Destination is very loosely based on the crash of TWA Flight 800 (which acts as a starting point for the rest of the film); the plot was based on an unused X-Files episode and has some intersting similarities with an episode of The Twilight Zone called Twenty-Two.
While the movie was not based on a book, it did spawn a series of related novels, the Final Destination books.

Recently, Zenescope Entertainment has begun producing a series of Final Destination comic books mini-series called Final Destination: Death Never Takes a Vacation.

The original movie was called Final destination. There are 3 movies in the series now. The first movie they were supposed to get on an airplane, the second was a car crash that never happened and the third was a roller coaster accident. They are all good movies but the first is definietly the best!

The movies Final Destination 1-3 were the originals, the books followed. The Final Destination books started with Dead Reckoning by Natasha Rhodes. There is now a series of books written by various authors.

I don't think it was originally a book, buy the movie you are talking about is Final Destination 1. If you like Final Destination 1, i think you should see Final Destination 2&3. :)
