This is a fair question. Remember, Notre Dame beat Georgia Tech at Georgia Tech and then dropped in the polls. Next, on their off week, they dropped again. Finally, they beat UCLA (yes I know if was close) and they dropped again. Thus, in fairness, Notre Dame has dropped even when they haven't done anything wrong. When they got their asses kicked against Michigan, they dropped big time - as they should have done. However, the other 3 times they dropped were unfair.
I guess it would be better to barely defeat Ball State?? Dude, Ball state plays one ranked team - that was Michigan. Notre Dame plays 3 ranked teams...2 of which are top ten teams. Also, to the idiot who said ND plays Duke - that's next year. Are you already holding the 2007 season against them?

Because lowly Big Ten team Michigan State nearly always handily beats Notre Dame and Michigan and OSU almost always handily beat Michigan State. If Michigan State can normally do that to Notre Dame and Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, and OSU are all better than Michigan State, that says a lot more for Michigan and OSU than Notre Dame.

Also, Michigan and OSU are both undefeated and both play tougher schedules than Notre Dame with the one exception of Notre Dame playing USC.

Just because Notre Dame finally beat MSU doesn't mean they are great. Notre Dame doesn't have a perfect record either.

Anyways, Michigan beat Notre Dame pretty handily. And OSU is probably much better than Michigan. When Notre Dame deserves it a little more, then they will move up the rankings.

And by the way, Ball State is actually pretty good this year. They've played a lot of tough teams. They barely lost to Indiana which dismantled Michigan State way better than Notre Dame did.

You answered your own question. Key word ''BEAT''. They ''BEAT'' those teams and Notre Dame has lost. Might I remind you of the very close game at Michigan State, a team that is 1-5 in the ''lowly big 10''. That doesn't say a lot about Notre Dame. Don't you count the losses of the teams that beat you and the wins of the teams that you beat ? That would make you look pretty bad. I am not a Michigan fan, but they beat you pretty soundly at home, so I wouldn't worry about your ranking too much. Look, my Buckeyes stuck it to you last year and Michigan laid you out this year, sooooo...... What was that expression on the '' BIG DOG '' t-shirts ? Oh yeah, '' If you aren't the lead dog, then the scenery never changes."

Ohio State and Michigan have had brutual schedules this year. In the second game of the season, Ohio State had to play Texas who won the championship last yer. They both play each other in a couple of weeks, and that will knock one of them down. Notre Dame has also had a tough schedule, but their wins have been close. And, it also boils down to the fact that Ohio State and Michigan have not lost. Michigan also has probably the best defense in the country. Of course, all of this is based on computer rankings and some formula it has.

Because Notre Dame lost to "lowly" Michigan, and OSU/MICH don't schedule Navy and Air Force every year. If you win every game, Domer Fan, you don't have to worry about it.
Go Bucks!!

btw...if OSU wins out, they will have beaten THREE #2 teams in the same year.
