I know its a silly question, but I really need to know the answer. It looks like dried up grass, but its not grass is it?

Hay is dried foilage. It can be grass, alfalfa, timothy or clover to name a few.

It takes experience and knowledge on when to harvest hay. If it's too moist it will mold, if it's too dry it loses much of it's nutrients.

Hay is dried grass or legumes cut and used for animal feed. Pasture flowers are also frequently a part of the mix.

Yes, hay is pretty much just grass. They say if you let your grass grow to your knees, you are a redneck. But if your let it grow to your head, you are a hay farmer!!!
