Ben Franklin was a wild Man!!! That Cat took more Laudlum than most horses could survive and still lived to tell the tale! He saw lots of mythical creatures then, let me tell You; I've access to His real diary!!! The only wild turkey He was talking about came out of a bourbon bottle Baby!! There is no such thing as real turkeys, unless You count the ones that garden gnomes ride around on.

Ben Franklin was a Faithist in the Great Spirit (Oahspe and Zarathustrianism) which will tell you something about his beliefs. Oahspe mentions him. He was raised by the Loo'is (angels of generation) to play a part of the beginning of Kosmon ( This is the beginning of the Kosmon era......by the time it is ended, all people will be vegetarians, and war will be a thing of the past on this planet.
I think the turkey suggestion was just practical, and I don't believe he was a vegetarian. Turkeys were abundant and he probably thought it tasted pretty good. He used tobacco, and it is the use of meat that calls forth the use of tobacco; and vegetarians rarely use it.

Ben was fat lazy guy so he wanted a fat lazy bird to represent our country to make himself feel better about being fat.
This is a little joke b/c in movies and books he's protrayed as being a fat old guy.

do you mean mythological? I don't think turkeys are mythological. But, if it was our bird I guess we would be eating bald eagles on Thanksgiving.
