I love the look of the 2007 Scion tc and all of the accessories/customizations available. But I hear the Mazda 3 is a great car.

Hm, so which is better for a high school student? Or which do you like better?
Thanks a lotttt. I'd appreciate any comments/suggestions.

Go with the scion. You already like the look pus the quality, dependability is there because its part of Toyota.
Mazda 3 is a nice looking car but the quality isn't nearly as good plus Mazda is owned by Ford. People I know who own Mazda's say they're okay, but people I speak to that have scions love them. Check out the Subaru Impreza, That is another model that looks good safe, reliable.

I checked out the several different small cars before deciding on the Scion tc and xD. The tc is fun to drive and looks good inside and out, has a great sound system, dual sunroofs, nice wheels. I've never been a fan of Mazda's and the 3 doesn't have much leg room in the back, but it wasn't a bad car. Toyota does have a better resale value. You might want to check out the Scion xD also, it gets better gas mileage than the tc and is fun to drive for a 4 door car.

Since the Scion is a new make of car - it's hard to answer this question with any validity. Yes, the Scion is easy to customize and there's tons of stuff for them (that's why I bought an xb), but Mazda has a great track record. Since the Scion's are new, we don't know how long they will last, and we don't know the resale value (someone's answer said Mazda holds their value better - but no one knows). If you are looking to keep this car forever, go with the Mazda since they are known to be tried and true. If you are looking for a car to drive a couple years, go with the Scion - they look better!

Both are good cars. Mazda is more time-tested than Scion, but Scion is a toyota brand.

A bigger question is A NEW VEHICLE FOR A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT? Most HS student will have fender benders as the experience level is just not there. My daughter went to school with children of million and billionaires, and they all had some kind of accident (including my daughter in her 1995 VW Cabrio). One kid totaled his Corvette by doing donuts in the HS parking lot on a snowy day. He smashed into a BMW 740, a Mercedes 230, and a Maybach 62 that were all parked. $460,000 worth of vehicles damaged due to stupidity.

Buy a used vehicle that can take a pounding. Insurance will be cheaper, and if the vehicle gets totaled (God forbid), it will be a less of a loss.

I'm just going by a fellow working who is an import nut.
He says the Mazda will blow away the Scion. its lighter, faster, sportier, and will hold its resale value better.

I would recommend the Mazda 3. I think it looks nicer. Here are a few websites to check out...
