I wanna be able to download peer to peer or direct without paying first - so I can back up songs I already own on vinyl records and therefore I am making a legal backup for myself. But without getting into a legal argument - just tell me where the kids are getting their mp3s these days - I especially want to be able to get music from the 1980's. THANKS

Just use limewire, its free, its fast, you don't get viruses unless you are very silly and download dodgy software... plus 99% of the time I find the songs I'm looking for... and I'm not really into commercial music.
Another good p2p program, if you are a little more technically advanced is DC++, it is specially useful if you are looking for rare music but it is a bit complicated to use at first, there are, however, loads of free tutorials.

My kid uses Bearshare. Beware, she gets funky viruses on her computer once in a while and we suspect that they come from there.

use limewire. its the best way to go.. go to www.limewire.com and download their free software and begin downloading anything you want.
