In X men 2 when Magneto is in the plastic prison he is reading a novel called "Once and Future King". Is there any special meaning behind this?

Hi Helen.
"The Once and Future King" by TH White is probably the best version of the King Arthur legend in plain English. Arthur was King and will come back to be King again, is the legend.
In this case I believe that Magneto is seeing himself more as a Merlin figure, creating the conditions for a new world order to arise in which he himself will not be King. As part of this Merlin was entombed alive by the nymph Nimue - Magneto by Prof. Xavier. In the book we know by the end that Merlin is not defeated forever and that the new world will not end with Arthurs death, but that both will indeed return and the new world is merely delayed, rather than prevented.
So does Magneto see himself as the magician, pulling the strings to put an end to an age of darkness, ignorance and barbarism? Yes!
Does he believe he will escape and start again? Yes again!
Final irony? Magnetos escape from his prison is set in train by a "nymph", if you can count her as such!
Regards, Steve.

The same reason profexxer Xavier is teching it in class at the end. Its the theory of how one can apsire to overcome ignnorance and acheive greatness, either him or magneto could be seen as merlin in this regard.
