I keep on seeing whole the world is viewing our election as some type of major change in politics.

the truth is that there is really very little difference between our two parties. I always think of it as voting for the lesser of two evils.

Do they think that we are just going to pull right out of Iraq at this point. It will be a slow withdrawal probably spanning a decade (atleast)

Our problem is that most people INSIDE the US don't understand politics, yet they are allowed to vote.

I agree, with the exception of France, most other democracies are parliamentary systems, which are vastly different from the US's Federal Republic. In most parliamentary systems, there really is not a clear "executive branch." The head of government is not elected by the people, but chosen by the representatives of the people. That would be the equivalent of making the Speaker of the House of Representatives, or the President Pro Tempore of the Senate the President of the United States.

Without an understanding of this clear delineation of the legislative and executive branches; and the exact role and responsibilities of each, it is hard for someone accustom to a different style of government to fully understand the US political system.

I guess in the UK the actual "Executive Branch" of government would be the queen, since she still has to sign a bill to officially make it a law. However, she is just a figurehead and supposedly holds no real power. So even the British may not be able to fully appreciate the US system.

I agree. But people from other countries arent supposed to. Those countries have their own goofy-governments to worry about.

It's bad enough we, in the U.S., have to be so politically correct to the world. Really care how the feelings of othrs are. Not offend too many people. (Like that's gonna change the way this world is.)

i don't agree. i think that there are people both inside and outside that understand it at different levels. if there really are people who think it will make a BIG difference, as in make the US a fair society with an ethical foreign policy, they are naive.

however, there is a democratic message involved here and after such strong for Bush in 2004, it does limit his mandate somewhat. As for the withdrawal, whenever it begins i'd be very surprised if it lasted as long as you suggest.

I agree with Fozzie, and that is also why are 2 parties in some ways are too similar. Its is also why the parties are so divided as us vs them.

If you saw our politics from the prespective of the outside world it may shed some light on things going on in our country.

Get real. Most people outside the US aren't rabid flag-waving nationalists who want war at any cost. We have cornered the market on them.
