The light is projected from the flasher and is reflected back
to the camera lens. Light travels at approx. 186,000 miles per hour which is at least 982,080,000 ft. per second.
(982 million feet per sec.) If an object were 10 feet away, the time it would take to go to the object and return to the camera
would be about 20 billionths of a second. The camera shutter
speed(the duration of the opened shutter) with flash is
around 1/250 of a second which is millions of times longer than
is necessary for the flash to make the round trip. The important
thing to consider is the flash duration. That is the length of time
that the light is actually in existance. Fortunately for the end user
only the manufacturer has to consider this. The flash duration
is between 1/1000 and 1/2800 of a second so again, the shutter speed is plenty long enough to accomodate this duration.

because of the very fast speed of light, it goes and comes back even shorter time than the blink of an eye....

light gets out from the flash at speed c, and the objects you are taking a picture of reflects that light....
and again, with a very fast speed, after reflection, goes back to enter that shutter of the camera and thus an image will be recorded on the film....

Whatever we see are the images produced in our eyes due to the reflected lights on the objects. Camera is also an eye like device. For getting a good image good amount of light is to be thrown on it, then the reflected light rays from that particular object will form a stronger image in to camera.

The shutter opens up the exact moment the flash lightens the subject, ant the photons reflected by the subject get in the camera, printing the film (traditionla cemaras) or the sensor (digital).
