I think they're fine when they're realistically portrayed, and make sense in the context of the story. Just like any other relationship, really.
I don't like it when they're put into soaps etc for tokenism or to generate headlines.

I've just read some of the responses on this site and I'm appalled by how narrow minded people are. I think gay relationships being shown on TV is a positive thing. The issue I have with gay and lesbian representation on TV is how certain prejudices are OK, particularly jokes against gays and lesbians, but the same would not be applied to jokes about people from ethnic minorities. Racist jokes are deemed offensive yet homophobia seems to fly under the raydar. I actually think US TV, when it does show gay couples, often manages to avoid the stereotyped peception of gay people. This is problem, outside of drama, most gay people on TV, particularly TV presenters like Graham Norton, Paul O'Grady and Dale Winton are stereotypically gay and camp. If the majority of people who've posted negative comments on this subject new how many TV or film stars are gay and closest and act as straight, and often straighter, than most heteros I think they'd be surprised.
Everyone, from any minority, has the right to be represented on TV. How can we hope to have a tollerant society based on respect without this?

Certainly no worse than seeing heterosexual relationships on television. What's the problem? If two people love each other, shouldn't that be a basis for a relationship? And why can't it be portrayed on television? Or do you only ever want to watch utopian, idealistic material based on something "wholesome", like "Little House on the Prairie"?
Your question implies a negative response on your part - stop being so bigoted, and accept a portrayal of a relationship for what it is - a relationship, regardless of the sex of the participants.

Seems normal to me. I don't like PDA (public displays of affection) - and thus I am uncomfortable when I am watching any sort of full blown making out scenes in TV series - gay or straight.
But RELATIONSHIPS are totally fine. Why would anyone have a problem with two people being in a relationship no matter who they are (except siblings or pedophiles)

Gay scenes between men always make me cringe but it is part of everyday life just like most of the other storylines they have on tv.

If people are gay thats ok but don't push it down everyones throats. Far too much sex etc. on tv no wonder kids are growing up in a lost society they don't know whats norm. These programmes shouldn't be on before midnight and give kids the chance to be just kids till they are a bit older .

I'm a lesbian and I will stand up for whats right and whats wrong.
The reason gays and lesbians are on telly nowdays is because its the 21st century and gay/lesbian relationships are known throughout the world.People accept it more now, obviously there's a few people on here that will disagree as I can see from there SICK comments!
I think its great there on telly as its as normal as a heterosexual couples!

I have not got a problem with it. I'm a christian by the way so don't think all homophobia is related to religion because its not. I'm more concerned with the obsession with sex ,bad language and violence on the screen then i am with someones sexual orientation. To those who wrote hostile or self righteous remarks those who judge shall be judged by the same measure. Janet the bible says the practise(intercourse) is forbidden. Jesus says to love one and other and to forgive as he has forgiven. He or She who has not sinned cast the first stone i now i cant can you?
