The number is the band size, the letter is the cup size. Each letter represents one inch in difference between the measurement of the band, and the measurement around the fullest part of a woman's breasts.
So if a woman has a 34" band size, the fullest part of her bust is:
35", this is a 1 inch difference, she is a 34A.
36", this is a 2 inch difference, she is a 34B.
37", 3" difference, 34C.
38", 4" difference, 34D.
39", 5" difference, 34DD (or E depending on the maker.)
40", 6" difference, 34DDD, or 34E, or 34F.
etc...
Once you get into the larger sizes, above a D, different companies start to use different letters for their sizing. When a woman buys a new brand, and she has a larger cup, she has to check the companies size chart to determine exactly what letter she needs in their bras. But a band size never changes.

They are cup sizes for bra. Standard cup sizes run from AA to D.
The cup size is determinded by subracting your band size, from your bust size. If the difference is less than 1 inch, you are an AA cup, a 1 inch difference and your an A, 2 inches and your a B and so on. After 'D' different manufactures use different letter for the cup size. Most US makers use DD, DDD, E, F. A few use DD, E, F, G.
And the mix gets worse when you look at foriegn makers. They typically don't double letter so from D they go right to E. As you can see when you get to larger cup sizes it is very confusing, depeding on who makes the bra, you might be a DDD, an E or an F.

So the 32, 34, 36 numbers are for the band size. And the A, B, C, D's are for how big the cup size is... A being the smallest and D bigger. DD is for women who are bigger then a regular D.

The number is what the measurement around the body, underneath the breast....Cup sizes are measured by the "Letter".
A woman with very small breasts are normally "A's" and go from there. Like Pamela Anderson is my guess "DD". I think most women average C without enhancemnents.
