Kisssing is briliant. I was just wondering where it comes from, why we do it......
Is there a biological reason or instinct to kiss someone you love or is it just because it feels nice.
I suppose it could be to do with intamacy and connection. What are your thoughts?

Other mammals (especially primates) occasionaly touch lips when grooming or even mating. But in our own evolutionary development, we found this sensation to be pleasurable. And once humans began mating front to front the pattern of kissing to show intimacy became natural.

The lips and mouth are very sensitive and semi-erogenous areas. Kissing feels good and is sexually stimulating.

There are two basic instincts in all creatures, survival and procreation. Kissing appeals to the second as it is often a precursor to sexual activity.

My understanding is that it goes back to the earliest days of Mankind as a species and originated as a way to feed a Child who was being weaned off a strictly milk diet.(Chewing and creating the first "baby food")
Later it was done as a sign of affection between adults(with a Nod back to the affection-bond of a mother and child).

Japanese prostitues used to do it in ancient times as a form of suduction. . And I belive it became popular in the medevil times. To see if the women had been drinking, the man would "kiss" her. They used to kiss on the palms (more nerves there..)

Good question!

My guess is that it's an intimacy thing. It's like saying "I like you so much that I'm not going to bite your face off, even though I could right now."

Maybe that's just me.
