Yes, I've ridden in both, though at 6'4" I don't fit in a tricycle and barely fit in a jeepney. In fact I preferred to ride in a jeepney for most of the six months I lived in Cebu City, to taxis, unless it was really hot or we had to carry home groceries. I guess cause it was cheaper and I like to look at people.
Once we rode a tricycle up a mountain to see some caves. It got so bad the guy had me sit behind him on the bike while my wife was left in the side car. We almost fell off the cliff a couple of times. We walked home from the caves. The guy thought we were crazy to walk and later my wife admitted she thought I was crazy too!
My wife's father was a jeepney driver and he died young of lung cancer, as often happens I've heard.

Yes, I've ridden jeepneys and tricycles lots of times. Yes, even though the smoke is horrible, we can't take them away. It's the common form of transportation there. Also, when I try to find a ride, all of them are full! Oh well, u have to be fast if u want to go somewhere i guess! I should know, I'm a Filipina. :D

since birth. Well, it's a fact that a bad kind of smoke comes out of every jeepney and vehicle because diesel is widely used in the Phil and this has been stated by another answerer.
We can not get rid of jeepneys and tricycles because these are convenient for many Filipinos. One more thing is that these kinds of transportation are national identities - things that are unique to the Philippines.

Yes, I have ridden a jeepney and a tricycle. The smoke is really bad and there are too much of them in the streets, adding to the horrible traffic, but you can't get rid of them. For one, it's an institution and second, there will be a lot of people who will lose their source of income.

oh yes millions of times while I was growing up there. Living in Philippines, it is the only means of transportation for me. Now and years later, I dont ride them anymore as I have bought a Van which I and my family use when we go there for vacation. I am glad I dont have to ride them nowadays though because they seem to be crowded all the time, most jeepneys has stereo blasting lound HIP HOP music which I do not appreciate at my age.

I have ridden in both. I also have ridden on the outside of a tricycle, which is awesome if you wanna see the farmlands of the Phillipines. People ride outside the jeepneys but its alot more dangerous. They go faster and the driver cant see you.

Oh yeah. . . just dont drive because traffic lights have different meanings. Tricycle is OK because its like riding on a horse. They have the best jeepneys though. Very colorful, some are called lowered and they look like luxury jeepneys. Dont forget to pay though. You have to say "mama bayad ko.pakiabot po"

Yes, I have ridden both mode og transportation. As far as the exhaust smoke, yes - it is bothersome. Lots of smoke belcher running around the streets, mainly due to lack of proper maintenance and tune up. Also, majority of the Jeepneys use diesel fuel.

when i was in college i rode it everyday of my life. can't do anything about it. just cover your nose and wear sunglasses for protection.
the tricycle, since i am now living in the province, is just fine. no problem with the smoke. cheaper than owning a car, easier to drive, does not need much parking space... by the way, our tricycles are spacious, can carry 5 passengers, and goes around with only one or two passengers for the same fare ... no need to wait to get it full.
i can drive a motorcycle and a tricycle ...

yes but the jeepneys in the old days [ of Marcos , before 1986] were better for two reasons.
they were decorated with dozens of horses, flags, banners etc - not allowed now.
they were able to move freely as imports of cars were restricted and so the roads had some space to drive in.
sadly not the case now. try to get to edsa and the big shopping malls and experience intense traffic jams and subsequent anxiety about the pollution of the planet , the waste of fuel in clogged up standing still airconditioned cars etc etc etc.
