Hamsters can leave their mum at about 35 days. They should be seperated at 5 weeks and left for 1 week before being offered for sale or seperated to new homes. You can split the sexes at this time aswell. At about 10 weeks they need to be seperated singly or they will fight to the death. This is the same for dwarf hamsters except the can live in same sex groups.

There are two ways to figure it out.

1) According to the pro's 2-3 weeks is the age to ween the hamster from the mother. (I think)

2) Personal experiance: When the little ones start fighting, time to seperate from the mother. (Happens at about the same time as the pro's suggest seperation from mother.)
