theoretically, the term element is used for things made only from one kind of atoms like gold, helium, oxygen. We know only about 110 types of atoms given by Mendeleev's table
The other type of matter is made of molecules which are combination of atoms. When atoms are in limited number, the molecules are in great number.
For wood or leaf we can so NOT say that they are made of an element;

Wood consists of 50% carbon and the other 50% is made up of various other elements in smaller amounts and in the form of compounds. Most living thing contain elements in the form of compounds in most cases. Elements abundant in living things are potassium, carbon, phosphorus, Iron, Zinc, Sulphur, oxygen, hydrogen, etc.

The answer, honestly, is no.
All solids, liquids and gas consist of elements (of course, various combinations of several elements).
That's because elements are stable, because of their atomic balance. They stay solid, or liquid or gas. (more or less).
There are "things" that are NOT elements:
Fire: This is a chemical reaction whereby electrons alone are stripped away from the source (the thing burning).
Radiation: sub-atomic particles which fly around freely.
Light: Light is composed of Photons...a small sub-atomic particle.
I hope this helps.

(i don't know with Yves M)
wood consists of C and H... (i forgot the chemical formula)
leaves consist of cells which consist of molecules, thus consist of atoms..with C and H again....(i dont know exactly bout C and H only)
not every thing known by man is made up of elements from our periodic table.... (like light)

You study that in Organic Chemistry.
Which is the study of Carbon.. the building block of life.
You learn how it bonds with nitrogen, chlorine, hydrogen, and oxygen (just to name a few) in order to make life.. alive.
