How do you know your profit margin if you don't know all of your costs?
Think on it.

Lucinia is on the right track for you, TK. She says that operating costs have to be deducted before figuring margin. Very true.

If you've been thinking on it, you should be realizing that all taxes count as a costs on the P&L statement. The tricky thing here is that you don't know the tax till you've gotten the profit and you don't know the profit till you calculate the tax. So you estimate the tax and then do the P&L assuming the estimation is true.

Okay the top two don't make much sense to me, maybe I'm a dunce this morning, I don't know.
I would guess it's after. Since your operating cost would be part of the 'cost of the business' and not really profit... yet.
Check with your local tax office or tax adviser to find out for sure. You don't want to over or under pay.
