no matter how hard I seem to try, my house always seems messy, not filthy, just untidy.
I share with my son, so he doesn't help, but I always seem to have to clean up and tidy up all around. Am I just disorganised? lazy? does anyone else suffer like this? I suppose a full time job doesn't help, any suggestions?

Hello Waynetta,
This is the real world, trouble is when you visit most people, you think they are very tidy, but they have been going mad for the last two hours cleaning every nook and cranny.
A lucky few manage to keep their places spick and span 24/7 but that is their hobby, it is what motivates them, they don't have a life.
Get out, go down to the pub, have a few drinks and then the house seems much more tidy.

Poor you. You may be a little disorganised but get your son to help. Two messy people is really messy.
For a start, you can put things in their places instead of leaving them around.
Use your off days and holidays to clean and junk. One word of advise - get rid of whatever you dont need. The lesser the stuff in the house, the lesser the mess - right ?

Im the same, forever tidying up, to cut down on the work at the weekends, I try to do a little bit every night. Apart from the usual (tea, washing up, put on a wash, hang out wash) that I do when I get home from work, say tonight, I will also bleach the kitchen and bathroom floors, tomorrow I might clean out the fridge, next day, good hoover of two rooms. A little bit little and often, I find makes my houshold chores work at the weekend a little easier and frees up a bit more time for myself.

I have always been accused of being over organized,so let me pass this advice on to you...Too many people put things off until another time....Putting things off only make things worse every day that passes until cleaning up the mess is too mush to handle..My advise to you is to do small chores EVERY DAY as part of a daily routine.like doing a load of laundry every night...Have small trash baskets in every room so it's easy to get rid of clutter on a regular basis....Be sure the dishes are washed, dried, and put away after you eat ....Nothing should be allowed to be left in the sink after a snack or lunch..Once you get into the HABIT of doing these things, you'll find your home will always be tidy..If you're just a LAZY PERSON,You are beyond any help.

Not everyone is organized or tidy -- so if that's not your best forte' then just do what you can and have a housecleaning service come in once a month and deep clean. If you're son is old enough give him some chores to do (even if it's just cleaning up his room and taking out trash).

Don't even bring junk mail in the house -- throw it in the trashcan that way it won't pile up.

hey working parents have a real tough time but i finally feel i have cracked it - refer to my answer to the question Our house is a complete mess - my answer is long but honestly it really worked for my family and i now leave for work with a clean and tidy house
to come home to (an i really do have a life other than chores!!)
the secret is to realise that it is not just the responsibility of one person to keep order in a home - every person living under the roof should take part (even the small ones can do something)
- you do have to answer one question honmestly though... do you really want it tidy or do you prefer to bne the martyr and keep battling on on your own?????

The key to this is be MINIMALIST
De-clutter you house
Keep only the bare essentials in it regarding furniture, utensils, etc etc. Allocate a storage space for everything that is left
If you have nothing to leave around you can't make a mess

Failing that you could sell you lazy son into slavery and hire a cleaner with the proceeds.

Good luck

You have two people in the house what on earth do you do to make the place messy? Stop doing it and your home will remain tidy.

No you are not a slob at all. The fact that you are even considering that you might be means you are not one. Untidyness is symptomatic of a busy life.

If I clean my flat form top to bottam you can bet that 15 minutes later it's a mess again.

I bet your places just has the "lived in" vibe!!!!

Don't worry about it, lifes to short.
