That's not true. When you're artificially inseminating at home, you need an eyedropper or a baby syringe, like you'd use to give liquid medicine to a small baby. You will probably need to *slowly* release the sperm into the carrying mother's vaginal opening, preferably toward the cervix - but not INTO the cervix. Something like this would work well, or the droppers you find in the eye-care section of Walmart are also great.

I am surprised at some of the answers on here, they are very rude! If you are doing at home insemination you should use about a 2 or 3cc syringe, the average amount of ejaculate is about 1tbl in my experience. If you don't know where to find them look for your local tractor supply store or anywhere that sells veterinary supplies, you should be able to find a suitable sizes there. Also, be sure that you get the ones that are pre-packaged and say ETO sterilization on them, this means that they are sterile and won't introduce any contaminants into your vagina. Above all else, don't try to put the sperm directly into your cervix (you would need a speculum anyway) but still, it can cause anaflactic(sp?) shock and put you in the emergency room. Size doesn't necessarily matter but the smaller ones are easier to use, and you don't want to put any air in your vagina so I suggest small. Be safe and I hope this helps...if you have more questions you can email me and I will elaborate a little more:)

If you are using frozen, you will probably want a very small needleless syringe, approximately .5cc. If you are using fresh, you will probably want a 2-3cc needleless syringe.
It's hard to find a syringe under 1cc, so you may want to try finding a veterinary supplier. They usually sell needleless syringes for liquid medications.
I've never head about sperm dying due to a small syringe tip. Sperm is microscopic, so I doubt that could happen.
Good luck!

I in no way mean this as an insult. So if this offends you, I'm sorry.
I breed Labradors and when a female isn't cooperating I use a 3 cc Monoject syringe to artificially inseminate. I'm sure it would work very well with humans too...

you should be using a needle less syringe. the ones you use for babies that have the extensions so you can get down in the bottle are the best, or so i heard. You dont want to inject into your cervix. You want to coat it with the semen the day before you ovulate and then they say to have an orgasm. Insert nothing into your vagina, just clitoral stimulation only

I have never heard that the sperm can die. I'm sure your doctor is using the correct size. Besides, individual sperm can only be seen under a microscope, so I would think that even the smallest guage needle would be sufficient.
Good Luck
