I had this same problem, and now i have fixed it.

I have a windows XP, and no external write protection tab. This does not mean its faulty, it means it has an internal one programmed in.

The way i fixed it is as follows:
1:Plug the drive in
2:In My Computer right click on it and click on "Open as Portable Media Device", or its something like that.
3:From there, everything you have on it should be there.
4:There it let me delete and edit what i wanted.

IF THIS DOES NOT WORK:
1:Go to the control panel and there should be something there to do with portable devices and it should let you do it there.

This may be hard to believe but i am 14 years old, i made a profile quickly just to answer this, and i could not find any answers on the net.

I hope this works, please send me a message if it does or not.

Check the switch on the flash drive as jcc suggested. It usually has a small lock symbol and would be located on the side of the drive. Move the switch to the opposite side and check if you could write files to it. Make sure the flash drive is not connected when you are working on the switch.

Check the drive it may have a tab that has to be moved to protect the drive or leave it unprotected.

try right clicking on the disk when you go into my computer
then if there is nothing there , go into properties, see if something in there can disable it
