India got independence from colonial rulers and yet Indians have not gained independence from emotional bind with parents. Some think it is good for family cohesion and youngsters will not become wayward. There is in our society excess expectations from family and the root cause for this is pampering by the parents themselves. The parents should leave the children to fend for themselves once they finish schooling and should never mind what they do for living and who they marry. Until the culture of arranged marriages and acquiring wealth for the sake of children and grandchildren persist in India, our country will not develop socially and economically. Even as the joint family system is coming to end, the pampering of children within the family is not leaving our psyche and the result is as said by you ill treatment of old parents at the hands of youngsters even while depending on them even after becoming adults. True and very true.

Your statement is not totally true! But its true that parents think that they are getting little or no attention from their sons after marriage and the new wife has total control over him.Understand that both relations are separate entities and do not compete each other. A husband-wife relation can never be a parent-son relationship. It needs real balancing trapeze act to maintain the equilibrium. Soon after marriage because of the exotic sexual attachments, some negligence occur with every man. There is one more reason to that.....because we are also animals!!! You would have seen the puppy growing up with the mothers utmost care but soon forgetting the relationship and tries to mate with others without bothering about the mother which had protected it!!!

First tell me, what about you? I think you are watching more daily serials now a days and you are coming to this conclusion. But when it comes to depending, yes most of them depend on their wives because the tie has been knotted for living together by helping each other in all aspects. When it comes to the part of forgetting parents after marriage depends on the relation ship how each other builds. As there will be generation gap in all generations, children some times ignore their parents advice. Concludingly, if you are sailing in different path, that is forgetting about your parents and going behind your wife, please check it up and go in the right path.

If a gent after marriage ignore his parents and depend on his wife, he will not be called as true son. It is the primary duty of the gent to give due respect to the parents and maintain good relationship with the wife.Happy family is one where elders are respected and youngsters are given love and care.

They are supposed to take care of their own families....wife and children, but should not forget their parents. That does not mean they have to call their parents everyday.
