If it were really a prequel it would be set pre-1962 but it's set in the present day. You can't apply temporal logic to the world of Bond.
I'm not sorry they're dropping Moneypenny and Q, as their stale banter with Bond was the same in every movie, but Judi Dench has gravitas. Why would they ditch her if she's willing to come back.

Why shouldn't Judi Dench be in the new James Bond, she's a brilliant actress and plays her part well. The only mistake thev'e made with this new film is the fact that they've got the wrong guy playing " Bond ". I know Sean Connery is a bit old for the part now but Pearce Brosnon isn't

I think if you got into the technicalities of why Bond movies aren't realistic you'd go bananas.
Judi Dench is the only reason I would watch the new one really. Daniel Craig doesn't do it for me. Although I might change my mind once I see him in a tux.

Why not? They are getting good mileage out of the old dame. Besides, what's the difference between that and them wheeling out Richard Llewelyn (the old Q) into his eighties as Bond got progressively younger. As soon as you start to hold to tight on the reality of James Bond, the sooner the enjoyment disappears. Just enjoy it!

The new James Bond does nothing for me. He will and can never be Pierce Brosman or Sean Connery.

A good point!
I think you have to think of M as a dynamic character and not the actor/character to time relationship.
It is crap but they couldn't exactly wheel out the old M could they?
