If you read some of the books written by WWE wrestlers they even say in the books that it is scripted. Steve Austin was scripted to win one match and he hurt his back or something in the match and it was all he could do to even cover the guy. They also put microphones under the ring and put that into the speaker system so you can hear the thumping on the ring better. If you watch closely, you will notice that they almost always stomp their foot as they hit the guy. The sound from stomping the floor makes the hit more believable. Also, if you watch, the hits go across the side of the face and not directly into the face. If it wasn't scripted, why do you think none of them ever comes away with bruises or a black eye? With as strong as those guys are they could definitely give a black eye.

The whole thing is scripted like a soap opera, even Mr. McMahon getting embarrassed. You have to create bad guys and good guys. The bad guys have to win so much so that the good guys can finally win and become the hero. About 95% of the time, I can pretty much predict who is going to win the match before it ever starts. Sometimes you can even tell if they will have the match ended by disqualification so they can set the story up for the main pay per view event.

Just because it is scripted doesn't mean that wrestling in the WWE isn't dangerous and it does take a lot of athleticism and training.
