Well...I would like to say definitely YES. But then again, as for the public policy (in which here I refer to the interest of the whole citizens of the world) I must say No. Why? Well, the death of Saddam surely will ignite another fire of chaos in our neverending war-world. In short, the death penalty that being put upon him surely will be the beginning of a new seed of destruction. I'll make it clear here...the 'killing' of Saddam as we all thought as some sort of punishment for him for what he had done as well as for justice for those who had been affected by his violent acts is in fact not the last of terror, war or chaos in our world! It will only be the beginning of a more chaotic world!!!
Therefore, I think sentencing him to prison for life will be much better for the good and interest of everyone around the world. Saddam is merely a human like us. The only matter that differentiate him from us is on what he WAS then and Is now. But this is not enough to justify him to be sentenced to death. Thus, I am on the opinion that we all need to think back. Appeal of Saddam's trial MUST be done. It is the only chance for us to ponder back the coming-mistake that the whole community of man is about to commit!!!

The death penalty is really an oxymoron. In the end of the day you have succeeded in nothing else than taking the life of a person- and you hardly need a courtproceeding for that. You haven't punished the person- learning your mistakes is key in any punishment and that cleary is not happening if the person that is suppose to change is dead!

Also, the court in Iraq has no authority trying Saddam on "crimes against humanity". However, Since neither US or Iraq even recognize the Haag International Court, I suppose they can do whatever they want.

i understand that what he did was tragic but no one on this earth has the right to take another persons life only God has that right i think the death penalty is wrong i realize that when something happens to someone you love that you expect the person responsible to be punished but they should not be put to death let them serve the rest of their time in prison being forced to think about what they did for the remainder of their lives i feel that when a person is put to death the people in charge are just as guilty as the person who commited the crime in the first place think of the heartbreak that people suffer when they lose someone at the hands of a criminal how their families suffer when you put a criminal to death how do their families feel no matter what that person did they still have a family that loves them and i wouldnt want to cause their families the same heartache when their family member dies i lost a son because of what was done to him if and when the person responsible for his death is found guilty if he is given the death penalty i will have no choice but to ask the judge to please give him life in prison with no parole because i do not want this mans family to go through what i did i dont want his mother to see him in his grave because if his mother loves him it doesnt matter what he did he is still her son and unless you are a mother you have no idea how it feels to bury your child whatever the age or circumstance who knows why people really do some of the things they do but i wouldnt want to live with the fact that i had a hand in taking someone elses life thank you and have a good day

This question should just be asking what people think of capital punishment, in general, because that's what this will boil down to... The people against the death penalty will say no and the people for it will say yes because if anyone has ever deserved to be put to death, it's him (and Hitler too). It's just a matter of the individual's stance on capital punishment.

I feel he should only because he took so many other peoples lives and destroyed so many families. Two wrongs don't make a right but in this case I feel it is necessary. He has been killing and taking peoples lives from the late 80's, over 20 yrs. I do think that to kill him is the easy way out for him and it would not hurt for him to suffer in prison for a while longer.

He brought his children in to watch and learn how to kill and torcher when they were young. He killed thousands of innocent people with a smug smile on his face. His own people and family feared him. He is a delutional barbaric physcopath that the world will be better off without !!! They ought to get some of his own people that he has brutally murdered their family members and give them all sticks and put him in a locked room with them and let them SLOWLY beat him to death. They need to make it last for days.

I think he deserves a re-trial. Between the lack of evidence, the murders of lawyers, resignation of judges and lawyers, and the overall circus atmosphere of the case, he deserves a re-trial. The whole thing was a joke. Yea he was a cruel dictator, and he killed his own people, but even monsters deserve a fair and just trial. Now hes going to be executed and Iraq is going to entrench itself even deeper into turmoil.
