If the Dems had lost, they could have blamed everything on the Republicans since they controlled the White House and Congress.
Now the Republicans could have fodder since any gridlock, inactivity, lack of progress, etc would give them a boost in 08.

Darn tootin' and maybe that pesky amendment gets nullified and America turns to Geo W to lead them for another four years, wouldn't it be ironic if Geo W's one hard to dispute election would be for a third term in 2008? History can turn on a year a month a week a day. The second the new batch of Democrats get seated they'll be villified & trashed by the well oiled Republican hate machine.

(Must share my pet scenario - - Bush get 's 'incapacitated' on the same day Cheney has 'the big heart - - -,' then Pelosi becomes Prez within months of the 2008 campaign season. That would be be a leap - - - not that she won't be mentioned as a 'possible candidate' the next two years.)

Peace...

It all depend on what the Dem's do. One of the big reasons the Republicans lost was because they had little positive stuff to run on. Really the only positive thing Republicans could say was the economy is growing at a healthy rate. That just didn't resonate with the American public. If democrats stick with can't lose issues like raising the minimum wage and bringing the troops home they could be in good shape for 08. However, if the Dem's try to shove illegal alien amnesty and impeachment hearings down our throat, Republicans will have plenty to run on in 08.

Gridlock isn't so bad. Sometimes, I think it is the best possible situation when government can't do anything at all. At least then spending won't be increased, and fewer of our freedoms will be wittled away with each passing law. So since nothing will get done in the next 2 years; if Bush vetoes, there probably won't be much new ammo to use against Dems. Pelosi may alienate a lot of voters though.

It will all depend on production, most of the exit polls suggested that the American people want us out of Iraq and if the democrats force the issue I think we can do it. We should never have went in there in the first place and it is the one thing left to divide the country. Steps forward on minimum wage, health care reform, and the war will play a big part in the next election, if George Bush veto's everything that the congress passes it won't play well for the repuglicans and will result in one party rule again, personally I hope that don't happen. The lesson learned from the last 6 years is that one party rule doesn't play very well in our country.

I don't think who is controlling Congress has that much affect on who might win the presidency, but the fact that voters in general are going to the Dems shows that they're tired of Republican leadership and I think that's a good preview of what might happen in the presidential race.

There's always two sides to this and each one has professional spin artists and their own media outlets to try and jam it down our throats. The Dem's could easily say they have tried to control the bleeding from before their time and depending on what gets vetoed they could say they have tried and need the white house to accomplish their mission. The Rep's could say they have their finger in the dike (so to speak!) and are trying to withstand until the Am. people can give them back control. One thing and one thing only is for sure, they will vote themselves a pay raise!

Thought they had a chance till they named Pelosi speaker of the house. Her extreme liberal politics will alienate most of the Mid West and Southern voters fast. If they had been smart and put a moderate in power they could have won the next election and probably held power for 10-20 years. Pelosi will hand it right back to the Republicans

I think it will hurt them. I'm sure Pelosi can screw up enough in 2 years to make the country hate the Dems as much as they now hate GW.

If they do a good job over the next two years, it will help them. If not, it will hurt them.
