Is Robbie Willliams famous in America, do Americans know him and his music?

He's a huge star in the U.K. and Europe.

I guess some Americans know him, he has released albums and singles in America. Some people say they find him to camp, to english, not American enough, some people say they find him to rubbish. One way to gauge his sucesses and failures in yankie land is to take a look at his chart sucess. The American Chart Postions of Robbie Williams aren't great. An international release only album 'The Ego Has Landed' which was supposed to be an introduction album to our American friends, which charted in the American Top 100 at 63 which was followed by the Album Sing When Your Winning, which didn't even make it into the top 100, managing to make it in at 110. Whilst Escapology was his highest charting album at 43. His singles have fared a little better with the god awful rudebox making the top twenty. Angels made in in to 41 in the hot 100 whilst Feel made number 40. Its not impressive but it could be worse, Many artists and bands from Britain struggle, unless they have some years behind them, or come from the 60s 70s & early 80s, such as the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and Duran Duran..... notable sucesses in recent time have been Radiohead, Dido, Spice Girls and Oasis. Though the latter have found it hard to consildate their past sucess, though they still at least made the top 30 album charts with their last 3 album releases. Though robbie isn't big in America the Northern part, he is huge in the Latin part he is one of the biggest International Acts in Latin America.

He's tried to break into North America, but he didn't go down well. I think they didn't really get his humour! As a Canadian resident, I've heard three of the four lead tracks from his last four albums, and I have brought the last five albums in Canada. However, he's definitely not a act that most people are going to know who he is.

I actually read that he likes going to America because he's relatively unknown.

Well he has tried to crack the american music market for years and his management has spent millions on trying to get him to break america with music but to no avail.
He went over there few times to achieve this but the music biggies do not like his music style.
He latley went to america and went up tp Lindsey Lohan at an awards ceremony she hadn't the foggiest who he was, poor Robbie.
B*witched and Spice Girls were big in America and Samantha Mumba got to no.1 with her Debut single about 10 years ago there but her manager Louie Walsh didn't have her follow it up well he is more used to dealing with boy bands.
Westlife havn't cracked America either.
Sorry but doubt Robbie will as he hasn't by now.
Heard he is big in South America thou.

Hes not really famous, only people who are really into music or ppl who have traveled to Europe know about him, im American, and ive heard him several times when i was staying in Germany.

i think alot of uk pop stars famous(or not) seem to buy houses in America because if you crack America your made also for tax reasons i know UK pop stars are only allowed to spend 3 months
in uk the rest of the time they have spend out of uk to make for a cheaper tax bill

I think people know his music, but I don't think he's all that famous there, probably like a D-Lister over there. Poor Robbie.

Of cause he is famous in America he was born there he films include Good Morning Vietnam, Dead Poet Society, Jack and Mrs Doughtfire.
