The Boro chairman had too much confidence in Southgate, and wanted him as manager right away after McClaren left.
Glenn Roeder at Newcastle doesn't have the right qualifications too, but that was because he suffered a stroke when he was suppossed to take the course, so he was given an exception. Boro said if Newcastle could do it then why couldn't they.

I said this about Southgate as soon as the news broke he was in line for the job, the results are no surprise.
I'm in Middlesbrough and i can only think they were so desperate to get rid of McClaren that they would have given the job to the Hartlepool monkey.
Looks like they got something close in looks as well as ability.

it variety of feels like the fulfillment of soccer gamers who substitute into managers/coach extremely after the international cup, has made extra gamers keen to step into those intense profile soccer place. and definitely substitute into yet another spotlight interior the information. i'm no longer so constructive if southgate would the proper guy for middlesbrough somewhat. i think many examine and be attentive to that he does no longer seems to have the mandatory education skills. he's a competent group captain for his former golf equipment nonetheless. i in my view think of he could only handle the group fairly properly for whilst. handling the media is yet another super project. optimistically the media and the critics does no longer 'kills' him approximately his tactical judgements etc... Else we will see yet another substitute lower back. How quickly? basically time will tell.

football and qualifications the 2 don't mix. 3 of the greatest managers in British football, no world football, didn't need a piece of paper to do their jobs. shankly, paisley and last but not least jock stein. name me one manager with all his fancy coaching badges could get a team of players from a 14 mile radius of their ground and win the European cup.
