So it doesn't have anything in it that will make him "die" ? For example the CD-Rw only last writing 1000 - 2000 cd's and after that the laser get's busted you can't write anymore.

Get a decent quality brand/model (I wouldn't touch LG personally), and it should last indefinitely if you look after it. Have a look at the BenQ models - they've been making them longer than almost anyone else (long before Sony or Panasonic for example), and are very well rated - also very well priced

Depends on the model. Current LCD have a MTBF of 50.000 hours. Mind though, that the Backlight only has an MTBF of about 20.000 hours.
The MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) is a is a reliability theory that is calculated from accumulated statistical data. MTBF is the frequency with which an engineered system or component fails, expressed for example in failures per hour.

They will last awhile, but the backlight will go out after a few years. Backlights can be replaced though. The color may be a little less vivid after many years of use, but usually people replace their monitors by then. Overall though most monitors can last many many years.

There simply is no way to determing the longevity of anything electronic. It could last years, or it could fizz out immediately.
