I was a member of Rotary and it became my job to do something good overseas. Through my little village runs a stream and I organised a duck race on the village carnival day. All the money we made by selling our racing ducks was put to one side then we - I, asked a Swiss club we are twinned with to match it and they did. Then I asked Rotary international to match our total and they did - then I asked the EEC to match the new total and they did. Three villages in Bangladesh were provided with wells, pumps and a pumpmaster was trained on how to use them and to give drinking water to the whole village. All from a team of men messing about on our stream and having fun doing it. I was only one of the team but for my sins, I was in charge. The villagers in Bangladesh will never know where the cash came from, only that someone set them up with water they could drink without getting ill. I'm proud of my involvment witth this. Anyone interested can donate cash to Wateraid and help pay for a well in Africa or India, go for it..........
For those who read this and wonder how we train the ducks to race... they are plastic and the stream does all the work. First past the post is declared the winner and whoever paid the money to put that particular numbered duck into the race wins a neat little £100-00 for their own use.

I left my husband! He was a bullying, controlling, abusive guy who had me believing I was worthless and stupid. Our daughter was picking up on this, and I was suicidal. But one day I just snapped and thought,'No more!' I went out, rented a flat, got some 2nd hand furniture and moved out. The feeling of freedom and strength was amazing!! That was over 3 years ago. I now have a wonderful relationship with a man who loves me and treats me well,I have loads of confidence, and I went on to take courses in Teaching Assistant Courses and Computers. My life is great now,and I'm so glad I got the courage to leave him!

Apart from getting married to the man of my dreams and been really happily married for 22 years, it was getting on a plane for the first time in my life in October 2005, I refused point blank to ever go on one because I'm terrified of heights, a bit claustraphobic and a wuss, my hubby has begged me for years to go on one so we can travel to all the places we have dreamt about over the years, I felt so mean but just couldn't bring myself to do it, I would go on a ferry to Europe or Ireland but not on a plane, but things change, we have a really good friend in Dublin who was involved in a serious car accident and she wasn't given much hope of survival, we had to make a decision really quick, either go on a 45 minuet flight to Dublin or by ferry from Holyhead which was a 5 hour car journey plus the ferry crossing, before I had chance to think about it my hubby had managed to get us on a flight that teatime and I knew I had no choice but to do it or regret it for the rest of my life, thankfully our friend survived and has made a full recovery, I don't know why I was such a wuss, by the time I got on that plane, got settled down, listened to what the cabin crew had to say, had a nosey round at other people on the plane we were landing, it was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be and ever since I've been a bit like Alan Wicker travelling about here and there, done Dublin another 6 times, Paris, Italy, even a long haul to Cuba in April this year, what a dream that was too, I cried when I saw that ocean and beach, only been able to see it in a brochure before and at Easter next year I am going on a lifetimes dream to visit my auntie and cousins in Australia, haven't seen them for 25 years because I wouldn't get on a plane and go there, but I am finally going, Singapour for 2 nights on the way out and Figi for 4 nights on the way back, I am so lucky I know, but so glad I made the choice and finally got on a plane as it really has changed my life for me.

Studied the bible with Jehovah's witnessess.
It answered all my questions such as=
Why does God permit bad things to happen?
What really happens to people after death?
Why are there so many religions?
It made me realise that I'd been lied to by other religions.
Its made me feel at peace with the world and with myself.
