It's up to the person giving the shower and the time of the shower.

My "friends" shower was in the midafternoon. We had cake and punch, played a few games and opened presents. My "family" shower was at 1pm and my SIL served sandwiches and pasta, we opened gifts and that was it.

Some of my favorite things from mine and friends' showers were:

1. At one we made scrapbook pages for the baby decorating each page, leaving room for a photo and putting in a personal message.

2. We played a simple game where we froze miniature plastic babies (you can find them at craft stores) in ice cubes. Each person gets a cube in their drink. The first person who's baby is "born" (freed from the ice cube) wins. I think the prize was just bath stuff.

3. Another easy game was we took the labels off of four different jars of baby food. They were all different colors. The guests had to guess what type of baby food it was.

4. If you have a competitive crowd you might try the clothespin game. We played it at alot of work showers because it's something the guys can get into. You give everyone 2-5 mini clothespins (at craft stores in cute colors) to clip to their sleeve. If someone says the word baby you get to steal a clothespin from that person. Only one clothespin can be stolen per instance of saying "baby" so there's a bit of competition over who grabs the clothespin. Also, you can have alot of fun tricking people into saying the word baby. At the end of the shower or at the end of the allotted time frame the person with the most clothespins wins. You can also do this by creating "necklaces" out of ribbon with a mini plastic pacifier (or other baby themed craft item) hanging from it and use these instead of clothespins.

4. As for food you can just serve party food or whatever your friends/family like. I did attend a shower where they had a bunch of pregnancy craving food as the theme. (Chocolate, pickles, etc)

Hope this helps!

Its all according to who is throwing it, normally there is finger foods like sandwiches and fruit/dip,and then punch or just pop and they are usually games that are baby related, like baby word unscrabble, or clothes pin game were you not suppose to say the word baby, at all the baby showers I have been at they were prizes like picture frames, candles, lotions things like that. ANd then the mom to be opens presents last. And dont forget about the wonderful cake!!!!
