Someone in our village has permission to build 50 homes that no one in the village wants, it'll distroy the village.

So I, SECTRETLY, bought the land off the person for full housing market value and it cost me £0.78million. i did this so the village could relax and not worry about excessive development and ruination of our country scene.

However, now they have found out about this, I assume from the seller, and are saying I'm just lording it up and trying to prove i'm in charge.

I've always been a gentle, quiet person who minds his own business, helping our areas in my own ways over the years. No-one has even had a bad word to say to me before.

Is there any point in trying to do the right thing anymore in this world ?

I'm half tempted to sell it to a builder and say "f**k it" and move.

JonB: thanks for doubting me. I assume you've looked at the plot, the local market, the size of the affordable housing that was planned before making your statements ?

Err, no ?

Oh dear, what a big assumption you
made, you don't live in our village do you ?

my friend, you are d most kind hearted person I had d pleasure of reading about. What you did was very noble and good. However, you should not be downcast because people have been to call you names. You should not be worried about that but be happy that you have done the right thing and that posterity will vindicate you. Also, ask yourself this question, which great man was never badmouthed or critisced? None. Everyone of them was vilified, cursed and some even killed. But dont be perturbed about what people say (because will always talk even if you dont do anything) but be happy that you did what was in your heart to do and you did the right thing.
Also, remember that you are unique and different because we live in a time where most people are selfish and selfcentered but you showed that you are not, but you didnt think about the money you will be wasting but the benefit it will have to the community. And dont you forget than even in the whole community were everyone is critisizing you that there is someone(one person) that is happy with what you did and that is what really matters. Cheers

Well, I know you as a champion of the veggie lifestyle so I know your intentions were honourable. I think you need to stick by your conviction that buying the land to save the village was the right thing to do and that you had the communities needs at heart. What you may want to do is now donate the land you've bought to the parish council for use by the whole community and also impose a covenant to ensure it can never be built on.

You are generous, perhaps to a fault, but you have a good heart and anyone who has said something against you is just jealous that they didn't have the means to save the village in the way that you have.

I applaud your passion and would hate to see it go to waste by you leaving the village just because of a few bad words.

you have done something really special for your village let this be your reward. Let them have there little say and think what they want. .if it really bothers you hold a meeting and tell them why you have done it . ask them what they want to do with the land. they could turn it into a animal shelter, a park area for everyone allotments the list is endless. you did say you did it for the village so let them decide. People put there mouths into gear before knowing the full facts. but other wise good on you be proud of who you are.

If no one in the village wanted the additional housing...you would think they would be thankful for your generosity! If this verbal abuse doesn't stop soon, I would just put it back on the open market...if the builder buys it, fine! If someone else chooses to buy it...then they will be taking the heat for the land purchase. Either way, it will no longer be your problem

Typical, your damned if you do and damned if you don't these days, I am sure if they had the money to buy the land themselves then they would have done, maybe their just jealous of your wealth and generosity or maybe they might think you should have asked their permission first like most nosey neighbours do these days, ignore them and if they carry on been so damn petty threaten to sell it to the government for a new prison, that should shut them up.

Ah I shouldn't worry about them! You have all this lovely land, what are you going to do with it? Personally I'd like a big farm with lots of sheep and goats and chickens and that... shame it might annoy some of the neighbours...?

damned if you do damned if you don't
A lot of these people like complaining and marching and tying themselves to trees and"making a difference".you just spoiled all their fun in one fell swoop.and they are probably jealous that your rich too.
You should sell the land for 1m buy a Bugatti and enjoy yourself f*ck what your ungratefull neighbours think.

Hmmm.....That is very cheap to buy land with full planning permission for 50 homes. It equates to £15,600 per plot which is very cheap. You sure you're not having some sort of Emmerdale fantasy??
