It mite be wishful thinking, but if the Dems. & President Bush can work together on ways to actuallly win the war in Iraq they will all have the opportunity to look good. That's what politicians want anyway. Think about it? Now that the Dems have power hopefully they will stop the rhetoric & come up with some constructive Ideas. Is cut and run an option? The truth is we have won the war in Irag. We are losing the war of rhetoric. The latter is more important at this point. Lets pray politics can be set aside long enough to let our enimies no we will not be messed with.

Don't bet on it. Congress was so pissed off that Bush won in 2000 that the Democrat ruled House and Senate wouldn't give into him, but yet they all voted yes to the Patriot Act (and now they don't like it and are trying to make us believe they didn't). I expect to see Bush dust off the old Veto stamp to stop the Dems from going over the top.

I think you've answered your own question quite well. You've shown how the system of checks and balances should work, and demonstrated that the conditions now exist for them to work. The key is whether the president and the new Congressional leadership want to work together.

Bush will not have his own way all of the time. He has lost Rumsfeld so he is beginning to see the writing on the wall and is making changes even before the new congress is sworn in.

That's wishful thinking. If anything all that will come of it is a bunch of vetoes on the democratic attempts by congress, and anger from both sides.

You are an optomist. I think we have 2 years of a lame duck presidency ahead of us. Pelosi will probably forget her promise to not impeach Bush and cause furhter distractions.

I agree with you. "the people of our great nation have spoken". Either they work together or the same people will and can replace them with others that can work together. America FIRST. Party bull has to come second !
