I am not gay but met a nice man who I would like to be his friend. I asked him “go out for coffee” and I think he got the wrong idea. Are there any websites with advice to help make non-sexual friendships?

I don't see anything wrong with that. You could also suggest maybe going fishing if the both of you are into that or even a sport event. I would put "making non-sexual friendship" in the yahoo search engine to see what they would come up with.

I go out with my officemates for coffee almost everyday...
It doesnt make us gay..... i dont think asking someone to go for a coffee is a sexual idea.. unless you show it....

maybe you shouldn't have said it the way you did. maybe if you would have asked him to inform you more about what you thought was intresting and then said hey I'm gonna go get some coffee you wanna come? but I'm not a guy so i'm not exactly sure if thats the way to approach it

You should have asked him to the pub/bar/whatever...

You should have ask if he wanted to go to the bar, then if you don't drink alcohol, you could have a non-alcoholic drink, soda or coffee.
