That depends. According to Greek legend one could become a deity by eating the food and drink of the gods (Ambrosia and Nectar). Also, if one was a direct descendant of a deity one could be given godhood by the gods themselves upon ones death (like Herculese).
According to Chinese legend. One could become deified by living a suitibly exemplary life.
Some have even believed that once a person dies, the can become a deity if others worship them as such after they are dead, something akin to Shinto and Shamanistic ancestor worship.
Some ancient mystics (and even a few modern ones) believed that a person could ascend to godhood by acquiring a sufficient amount of knowledge and power. Of course I do not personally know of anyone that has succeeded in that.
Those are the main ways that I am aware of that a person could become a deity. This list only scratches the surface as there are a number of other ways as well in many cultures as well as some that I am certainly unaware of.

According to Vedic Scriptures, Only the Body Is Mortal, The soul is eternal. Though Soul has same Quality as God, Soul can never become Equal to or Greater than God in any circumstances. God cannot be manufactured. A Person can at max revive his original powers as a Soul, and those powers are very high. Still its very minute compared to power of God. In Vedic Scriptures, there is mention of Incarnations of God. It means that God himself comes in some form to this planet. We must hence not understand that some mortal became God. God is God with all the powers even when playing the part of a small Baby.

If we are of the All Thing/God/Creator, then are we not Gods and Goddesses ourselves? I believe we all have an ability to be great within us and in the Ancient times they new this and spent much of there time learning how to access this gift within.
Look within.

Become a member of the Church of Satan that was established by Anton LaVey.
"This short essay provides an essentially atheistic approach to Satanism, and indicts Judeo-Christian religion and prayer as hypocritical and unrealistic. Further, it clarifies the Satanic approach to the question of God:
...the Satanist simply accepts the definition which suits him best. Man has always created his gods, rather than his gods creating him. To the Satanist "God"...is seen as the balancing force in nature, and not as being concerned with suffering.[1]
The passage from which this is taken, when viewed as a whole, suggests that "God" is a human concept, a means of explaining that which men have been unable to explain either through ignorance or through philosophical inability to grasp the nature of reality. This passage also opens up the common Satanic maxim, "I am my own god", a statement of self-aggrandizement, viewed as a positive trait by Satanists."

buddhist believe that inside every body, there's a buddha.. with cultivation, this buddha will manifest itself... the first buddha that buddhist follows, is a indian prince that give up everything he has and cultivate himself.. so if buddha is god, then everyone can be god...
the taoist believe in souls... and if you do good.. like guan yin and monkey god and kong zi.. then you find the "way" and go to heaven.. and become god like...
the christians believe in Holy ghost... but god is god.. no one can be god.. but you will be near god, if you believe in christ, and christ lives in you...
