Residential Child Care Worker?

hiya i am wanting to work as a redisential child care worker in a childrens home i am only 19
i have seen sum jobs on offer around northumberland where i live in the northeast of england but they are asking for 12 months expereince i dont have any experience apart from looking after my bro and sis when they were little so how can i get a job if no1 is going to give me 1 coz i dont have experience i have tried lots of places and dont seem to be gettin anywhere ??? please help as i would love to work in a childrens home ? anybody working as 1 now ??? thanxs x

i dont know where they do voluntary work in my area though ??

i am going to study my nvq level 3 in care

Try voluntary work for a while... or try elderly care, I know its at the end of the spectrum but they are sometimes willing to take without experience and it gives you the groundings of care.... but if not try voluntary, good luck

Have you tried approaching local infant schools and offer to help out as a class assistant? This would give you some experience and you could go on from there to do residential care.

if its just experience you lack try doing some voluntary work in one of the homes .. i take it you have the qualification to work with children in these settings just wanting to work there isn't gd enough alot of the children will have problems and will need the help and support of the adults around them

you might have to resort to volunterring and working at another job that is entirely different until you build up some more experience by volunteering. I have had to resort to that in the past - who knows I might have to do it again.
