My 6 month old son has had a minor rash for about a week. It doesn't seem to bother him and his pediatrician thinks it is just dry skin. It's a little bit on his tummy and then on the back of his neck and shoulders. It's not red unless he's just been bathed. Mostly it's just little skin colored bumps that you can feel when putting lotion on him or bathing him. You can't see it from a foot away. So I know it's not anything serious, but I'm wondering if anyone has seen the same thing or has suggestions to get it to go away? I've used Cetaphil, J&J lotion and Aquaphor to no avail.

Try putting a humidifier in his room. If you are running heat in your house, it could be causing his skin to dry out- my youngest daughter dries out easily, so I have a humidifier in her room near her bed. Keep lotioning him after baths and make sure he gets dried off well after a bath as well. These rashes usually don't hurt, but they can sting a little when they get wet. Other than just doing everything you can to keep him moisturized, there's not much else you can do for him. If the lotions don't seem to be working, try a little vaseline instead.

When my son was 16 months or so he had the same thing and in the same places as your son but he also had two little patches on his face. Eventually, the patches got raised little bumps and we took him to the doctor. They claimed it was impentigo (the rash on his face resembled acne to me). Gave him an anit viral oinment but it didn't work. We finally took him to a dermatologist and found out that he had acute dermatitis (eczema). He was given a steriod cream called Protopic and antother steriod cream called Elidel. Within 8 days his skin was clear. I tried all the expensive lotions like you have and none of them worked. Once my sons skin cleared though, I did continue to use Cetaphil after his baths and it seemed to prolong how often I had to use the RX medications. Good luck!

When you bathe the baby, just use water and and gentle scrubbing with your hands, don't use and soap and try to let him air dry if your house is warm enough.

For minor rashes, I try to use nothing for a few days, but if it persists, I use Weleda Calendula Diaper Change cream on rashes everywhere on everyone in the family. It has always helped all of us right away.

Don't worry too much about the lotion, this may be drying out his skin.
Is he hot ? It could just be a heat rash, try cotton clothing and avoid polyester items, this helps with my bub.

something similar to this just happened to my friends 23month old. but.... She had recently had a cold and it was just the way her body reacted to the cold that she had... she was not on meds untill her mom noticed the rash and took her to the doctor and he told her that it was b/c she had a cold and theat her skin broke out with that rash as a symptom of her cold.
