The vast majority of sites listed in google results aren't manually submitted for inclusion, but found and added automatically when google very own personal spiders crawl the web.

Try this site http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=34397

Then this one

Very easy to understand.

Well, you have the option of Adwords. But it's not free, is the Google advertising program, the ads that appear with: "sponsored by google or ads by google".
Another way would be include in your website that word. But the content of your website must be very related to that keyword, I mean, you can't have a website about cars and expect that your link appear in the search results of somebody searching for flowers although in your website, maybe you have this word because in one of your cars there's a drawing of a flower.

Do you have a Google Ad Words account?

If not, you will need one. More info on Ad Words will be found here:
https://adwords.google.co.uk/select/Login?sourceid=AWO&subid=UK-ET-ADS&hl=en_GB

After setting up your account, you will need to:
1) select the words you want to appear on
2) insert ads into your account
3) set your daily budget

Presto! :-)

Remember, the terms must be relevant to the contents of your site. Another tip - Google don't like pop ups!
