It depends on how long your cycles are. Each woman is different. Fortunately it it very easy to find out. Simply take your temperature every morning when you wake up. You temperature will rise when you ovulate (this is when you are most fertile). It will stay higher until you have your next period. Also keep an eye on your mucus. Towards the middle of your cycle (about the time when your temp rises) your mucus will become clear and stretchy like egg white. This also indicates you are in a fertile period.
LIFE UK runs a fertility awareness programme and the Couple to Couple League offer an excellent home study course.
Good luck!

Speaking from experience, I have 3 children. You should count 14 days from the first day of your last period and then have sex as often as is humanly possible from about three days before that date and three days after. Most women ovulate right in between cycles. Also place a pillow under your hips during and when you have finished stay there as long as you can, gravity will help. Good Luck and enjoy.

It's normally around your 14th day after your last period. But everyone's ovulation is different. When I was trying to conceive I was taking my temperature and doing all the right things and started thinking I wasn't ovulating at all! So for three months I used those over-the-counter ovulation tests and found that I was actually ovulating around day 7 or 8 each month and that's why I wasn't getting pregnant. Find out when your best time is and focus on trying then.
Here's a link that explains it.

Melanie, to get pregnant you must have sex on a day that your eggs are being released.
After the 3rd day from the day that menses started put a thermometer into your mouth and check your body temperature every morning before you start turning in bed. The best time is at about 4 a.m. Maintain a chart. You will find that on one day the body temperature drops from 1/2 degree to one degree. This is the day that your eggs are being released. If you want to get pregnant this is the day that you must have sex. Tell your husband to ejaculate on his inward thrust so that the sperms will shoot deep inside.
After having sex you must stay in bed for about 30 mins with your knees bent up with a pillow under your buttocks so that the sperms will not pour out - to enable them to travel up.
Get your husband to save his sperms in the testacles for at least 3 days before sex to enable them to mature well to do their job.

Around the time which you ovulate would be the best. This normally happens 14 days after you start bleeding some women vary. This is the reason when on IVF they tell you to take your temperature, when you ovulate your temperature goes up slightly.
You can purchase an ovulating kit now as well as the pregnancy ones, these indicate when you are ovulating
